- CHAPTER 3 -
"I AM YOUR DRESS"
There are still many unanswered questions when it comes to the topic of sustainability in fashion. When is fashion sustainable? Which substances are there and which are not? For this reason, we would like to gradually tell the stories of our individual items of clothing and bring you closer to the fabrics that we have chosen with a lot of love.
Today we are devoting ourselves to our GOTS certified, undyed midi dress. The dress was made by our long-standing production partner Cottonanswer in Portugal and is made from organic cotton and hemp. The use of hemp as a material for clothing may still be unknown to many, but it represents an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to cotton that has many positive properties and is being increasingly promoted.
Hemp is a fast-growing and naturally purely organic fiber. Little water and no pesticides are required for cultivation. Almost any part of the plant can be used, with the fibers for the fabric coming from the stem. The fiber is particularly durable and long-lasting - the epitome of sustainability. Basically, hemp has similar properties to cotton and is therefore becoming increasingly popular in the textile industry. Hemp is very moisture-regulating; compared to cotton, hemp absorbs three times as much moisture and at the same time dries three times as quickly. The fibers are dirt-repellent and tear-resistant as well as temperature-regulating - warming in winter, cooling in summer. In addition, hemp is particularly skin-friendly due to its organic cultivation and antibacterial effect.
Since the fabric made from hemp is very robust and non-flowing without chemical treatment, we at Kahlar have mixed hemp and organic cotton. This makes the dress pleasantly soft and is great to wear! Now it's time to carefully select the next fabrics for the upcoming collection and tell new stories, the stories of your clothes.
